A large crowd of ex-pupils, mostly leavers in the years 1955/56, plus Arnold Thompson and Tom Hill, gathered at the Plough Inn at Eaton, near Macclesfield on the 15th May to honour Henry. He has faithfully attended all our reunions and we were all delighted to pay him this tribute. (Tom Hill has also reached his 90th birthday, but preferred a low-key role).
The Crewe Male Voice choir, of which he has been a member for many a year, joined us and entertained us with some beautiful singing. Admiral Sir John Kerr, (who had been mentored by Henry, and had been inspired by Henrys naval career to go to Dartmouth Naval College), gave the birthday toast. Henry replied with his usual wit, charm and pretty total recall. His tribute to the School and to his pupils touched us all.
A wonderful card, prepared by Jennifer Butterworth, with a montage of memorabilia, together with the School Prayer reproduced on the back, was presented and a birthday cake, organised by Kathleen Foster (nee Ireland), was cut and shared. We are grateful to Jennifer and Kathleen for their efforts in organising yet another great event.
